Personality: The thing that best describes this AU version of Jackie's personality is innocent. He grew up in a rural area of the Earth Kingdom, away from much of the turmoil and political upheaval as well as many of the vices that urban life has to offer. As a result of this, he can be a bit naive. Jackie knows that not everyone he meets necessarily is a friend (he had to deal with bullies as a kid) but he likes to give everyone he meets the benefit of the doubt. Only when they've proven themselves untrustworthy will he treat them that way.
On the other hand, if he does feel that he can trust you then Jackie will be a dependable and unshakable friend. He got a selfless demeanor and is always willing to help others in need, whether there's any reward in it for him or not. Jackie was brought up to believe that doing the right thing was its own reward and that good things happened to good people and vice versa. Of course, because of his willingness to help others without question, this can sometimes lead to Jackie becoming a bit of a doormat. It takes a lot of pretty egregious abuse from someone before Jackie would be willing to put his foot down and tell them no.
Jackie doesn't like trouble and will try his best to avoid it, unless it means hurting others. This is somewhat ironic because Jackie is actually a very good fighter, not that he'd ever admit to it. He learned martial arts through observation while working at a martial arts school. Obviously, his moves aren't as refined as they might've been with formal training, but he's still quite good. Still, even with that skill at his disposal he will only use it when he absolutely has to. He's a passive person by nature and so doesn't like to fight or do harm to others.
Jackie is fairly easy to get along with for most people. He is friendly and willing to speak to pretty much anyone. However, his pension for extreme amounts of optimism can be grading even on other nice people. He can come across as rather dense but he's not a dummy. He simply wasn't raised in an environment which promoted having "street smarts". Because of this, as mentioned before, words like "innocent" and "naive" can often be used to describe his interactions with strangers. He has patsy written all over him and he'll likely not realize he's being duped until well after the fact.
Jackie also doesn't exactly have the best self-esteem. He's annoyingly humble, always making light of any sort of accomplishment or task he completes and gets very flustered when people insist on complimenting him. He just views himself as a pretty average guy trying to find his place in the world. His chance to come to Republic City was seen as a chance to actually try and be more than what he feels he is.

History: Having grown up in a small Earth Kingdom village, Jackie hasn't had a lot of experiences outside of that. His family was basically subsistence farmers and had been for generations. In a somewhat larger, neighboring village, there is a martial arts school where Jackie goes to clean and run errands for the instructor. In exchange, he not only gets a small pay, but the instructor agreed to teach Jackie how to read and write. This was an arrangement setup by his parents in the hope of providing their son a better life. What wasn't expected was that Jackie, while watching the instructor teach his classes, would learn martial arts as well.
The fact that he did learn was kept a secret until he came across what looked like some bullies picking on a much smaller boy. What he didn't know was that the bullies were sons of local officials. When things turned violent, Jackie protected himself and was able to defeat the boys. Unfortunately, the story they told their fathers was a lie that painted Jackie as the instigator. In order to protect him, he was sent to seek his fortune in Republic City.
